Miss logs
Every question you miss or guess is data. The miss log turns it into a pattern you can fix, with a re-test date so it doesn't slip.
The Step 1 and Step 2 CK systems each keep a miss log at step1/miss-log.csv or step2/miss-log.csv in your state folder.
Logging a miss
Just dictate it, in any order. For example:
recognition, renal, path, nephritic vs nephrotic, hematuria plus RBC casts means nephritic
The coach structures it into one row: date, source (qbank, a self-assessment form, or other), system, discipline, miss type, concept, takeaway, and re-test date. You can log as you go or batch them at the end of the day during your evening check-in.
Questions you got right by guessing count too.
Miss types
| Type | What it means |
|---|---|
| knowledge | You didn't know it |
| recognition | You knew it but didn't recognize the presentation |
| reasoning | Right facts, wrong chain of steps |
| distractor | You narrowed it to two and chose wrong |
| process | You misread, rushed, or changed a right answer |
Re-tests
- Knowledge and recognition misses come back in 2 to 3 days.
- Reasoning, distractor, and process misses come back in about 7 days.
Your daily check-in surfaces due re-tests as a short themed set or a card review.
From misses to weak areas
Each week, the miss pattern analyst tallies your misses by type and system. Three or more misses in one system in a week promote that system to your weak areas list, which drives your repair sessions and the weekly review.
Self-assessment misses are logged by content area from your score report and your own review. The log never stores question text from a qbank or exam, only your own words.
Print it
Say "Print my miss log." You get misses grouped by type and system, with takeaways and re-test dates. See Printable PDFs.
