Daily check-in

The daily check-in is a two-minute morning plan and a two-minute evening log. It is how you always know what to do next, and how the coach gets the data for reviews, dashboards, and printouts.

The Step 1 System, the Step 2 CK System, and the free Weekly Planner include a daily check-in. Away Rotations runs on a weekly rhythm instead (see Away Rotations).

Morning

Say "Check in." or "Plan my day."

  1. The coach orients you in one line: your phase and the days to your next milestone.
  2. It asks how much time you really have today, and your energy from 1 to 5.
  3. It builds a checklist of 3 to 6 items, most important first, from your plan and phase. In dedicated that might be timed question blocks with full review, a repair session on your top weak area, Anki reviews, and a rest block.
  4. If time or energy is low, it uses your daily minimum and tells you that counts as a win.

Evening

Say "Log today." The coach asks for rough numbers:

  • hours studied
  • questions done and percent correct
  • whether you reviewed misses and guesses, and did your Anki reviews (yes, partly, or no)
  • hours of sleep last night and energy from 1 to 5
  • one sentence on how it went

It saves a row in daily-log.csv, offers to log misses in your miss log, and adjusts tomorrow. If you missed the target, tomorrow gets smaller instead of stacking debt. If review was skipped, new questions are cut before review is. Two low-energy days in a row trigger a wellbeing check.

Streaks

A day counts toward your streak when you meet your daily minimum. A broken streak is never shamed; it just restarts.

Tips

  • Short on time? Answer only the first question of each half.
  • On rotations, tell the coach about call, clinic, or a long OR day. A 14-hour surgery day is not a 100-question day.
  • Want paper? Ask for a printed daily checklist. See Printable PDFs.
